Our Guiding Principles

If our actions determine our character, then the principles that guide them are paramount. Here are ours:
• Jesus is Lord
• Everyone is welcomed and valued
• We are called to be loving, compassionate, and just
• We strive to forgive, as we are forgiven
• We strive for open, honest, respectful communication
• We practice faithful stewardship of God’s gifts

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating God’s grace by sharing the good news of Jesus and spreading good will in everything you do.

Who We Are

The congregation draws members and visitors from a wide geographic area. Spring Prairie was formed as a congregation of Norwegian immigrants in 1847. Today, the congregation continues to worship, learn and serve with the same love of Christ as our ancestors in the faith.

We called Rev. Sylvia Lee-Thompson to be our pastor beginning in July of 2007.  Back in 1919 Pastor Sylvia's grandfather was called to serve Spring Prairie and served until 1954.  She enjoys living with her husband Chris, also an ELCA pastor, in the same parsonage where her mother grew up.  God works in mysterious ways!

What We Do

Today we are a congregation of just over 300 baptized members. Worship is at the center of what we do – gathering together, listening to God’s word, celebrating Holy Communion, and being sent out into the world to be the body of Christ in the world.

As you read through the pages of this site you will see the various ways that we minister to our wider community as well, in Jesus' name.
